Once again, climate icon Greta Thunberg (20) is making headlines with her climate demands. In her new book, nearly 500 pages long, she presents solutions to combat climate change – and doesn’t mince words. This will say “Focus”.
The activist especially denounces capitalism. It is clear to them that climate change can only be counteracted by abolishing this social order. What is needed instead is a state that dictates people’s lives down to the smallest detail.
“Leaving capitalist consumerism and the market economy as the dominant custodians of the only known civilization in the universe will probably turn out to be a terrible idea in hindsight,” the arguably most famous climate activist said in her book.
Thunberg sees a great capitalist conspiracy against the climate. Most of the blame lies with politicians who still support multinational oil companies. The media is also denounced in her book. She would only be satisfied if only the climate crisis were reported: “Actually, this should dominate every hour of our daily news, every political discussion, every business meeting and every minute of our daily lives. But that’s not happening.”
Although Thunberg’s anthology, in which many other authors also speak, is peppered with harsh criticism of capitalism, according to Thunberg, the other systems also fail when it comes to sustainability.
The demands of the climate icon are clear: legislation or regulation is needed that “forces someone to take the necessary steps to save our future living conditions on earth”.
The “white, privileged, middle-aged heterosexual cis men” who would currently rule the world are “unfit for this.” Co-author Sonja Guajajara (49) therefore believes that indigenous women should safeguard the future of humanity. “In many indigenous communities, it falls to indigenous women to manage and protect our ecosystems, and to preserve our knowledge through memory and custom,” says the indigenous Brazilian environmentalist.
All measures that would be compatible with capitalism in the fight against climate change are rejected in the book. Technologies to extract CO₂ from the air have been described as “scams”, solar geoengineering has been rejected due to the “bitter resistance of indigenous peoples” and electric vehicles have also been rejected as a solution because they “present an opportunity for the powerful and the rich”. “.
Co-author Kevin Anderson (60) draws the same line as the Swedish climate icon. The British climate researcher proposes planned economy rationing as a solution. Accordingly, the state should determine the size and number of houses and cars and how often we fly or drive.
Why the plans of Thunberg and Co. would lead is clear: all areas of life and activities of each individual would be determined by the state. (dzc)
