The young man was arrested by the FBI, and as his entourage claims, he intended to “show off” to his digital community

The author of the greatest leaking of classified Pentagon documents from WikiLeaks allegedly Jack Teixeiramember of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, it was revealed The New York Times. The 21-year-old Teixeira, who was referred to as OG (the equivalent of an old gangster) by members of the community to whom he gave confidential information, would do so to “show” that he had access to them, but also to “inform” them, as one member stated groups The Washington Post.

The Discord (messaging service) community to which Teixeira forwarded the documents consisted of about twenty people, among whom he was the oldest. united by theirs a hobby of guns and video gameswere often posted by members of the group racist content. The Discord server was called Thug Shaker Central for one season, a play on words with xenophobic connotations.

Teixeira, identified by The New York Times as the alleged author of the leak thanks to the “digital evidence trail”, he would be the server administrator, thus having effective control over the entry of new members. The young man would have obtained the secret documents thanks to his position in the National Guard and would have uploaded them to a server to “inform” its members, but with no intention of releasing them, as several members of the community told the New York newspaper.

In the video he posted publishBefore the suspect was identified, one of the group members said he wanted to keep Teixeira’s identity a secret because he cared for him “like he was family.” According to the source, the suspect is a “charismatic young man” who loves nature and God who thought “the government is overdoing many things” and who likes guns and racing cars. Within the group, Teixeira saw himself as a leader, not as a boss, but, according to the same source, in a paternal sense.

Since some of the more than 100 leaked documents were just over a month old, the information they contain is particularly sensitive. Along with maps of Ukraine’s air defenses, there were documents detailing South Korea’s secret plans to supply Ukraine with ammunition and US intelligence assessments related to the war. In addition, according to one of the members he spoke with publishby Wednesday, the known documents would be no more than the “tip of the iceberg.”

From Dublin, during an official visit, President Joe Biden pointed out this Thursday morning that the US intelligence services and the Department of Justice are “close” to drawing conclusions from the investigation. Biden said he was concerned about the leak, but at the same time, he believed nothing of particular concern had been discovered.

Finally, this Thursday in the early afternoon The FBI announced that an arrest had been made in connection with the case following a search of Teixeira’s mother’s home in North Dighton, Massachusetts. Soon after, official sources confirmed it: the person of Jack Teixeira was arrested.
