The? Ah, that’s just nearly four million origami hearts for Angkor Wat

Millions of paper hearts for the famous Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia: With this campaign, the Southeast Asian country made it into the Guinness Book of Records. The judges confirmed that a total of 3,917,805 hearts were folded and arranged in origami style.

With that, the country has clearly surpassed the previous record from 2019 when 53,704 origami hearts were folded in Great Britain.

British ambassador to Cambodia Dominic Williams wrote on social media that in his capacity he should probably regret his country losing the origami world crown. “But Cambodia didn’t just pass us by, it rose into the stratosphere.” For the world-famous temple complex from the Khmer kingdom, the hearts in all the colors of the rainbow created a spectacular picture.

In Cambodia, the goal was initially to produce one million hearts. However, so many residents from all parts of the country participated that nearly four million were eventually submitted, according to the Guinness Book website. The participants were between the ages of 4 and 80, the newspaper “Phnom Penh Post” wrote. The record was officially set on Tuesday. (sda/dpa)
