55 arrests confirmed for corruption in Venezuela’s state-owned companies in operation “Caiga quien caya”

The Venezuelan prosecutor’s office confirmed this Monday the total 55 arrests of people linked to corruption schemes in several state-owned companies such as the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) or the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG). The Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, detailed that authorities have requested 67 arrest warrants, twelve of which remain to be executed.

Likewise, Saab added that 142 raids were carried out across the country, as part of “actions taken by the state to sanction the aforementioned mafia.”

On March 25, the Venezuelan government launched an anti-corruption operation in which officials, businessmen, judges and the mayor were arrested frame of operation Whoever failswith which the Venezuelan government intends to attack corruption within the country.

Those arrested could face charges of “appropriating or interfering with public property, expanding or confirming relationships of influence, money laundering and conspiracy, while public officials also will face charges of treasonSaab explained.
