Deutsche Bahn sells 250,000 tickets of 49 euros within 3 days

Deutsche Bahn (DB) expects that one in five Germans will use the new 49 euro banknote. “The demand is huge. In the first three days of the presale, 250,000 tickets for Germany were bought from the railways alone,” says DB Regional Transport Manager Evelyn Palla from “Bild am Sonntag”. “On Monday we had twice as many hits as usual on our website.”

Palla assumes that demand will remain high in the future. “We expect that around six million people across the country will sign up for a local transport subscription with the Deutschlandticket for the first time.” In addition, it is expected that some eleven million passengers who already use a season ticket will switch to the new service. “That’s a total of 17 million users.”

The Deutschlandticket can be used in local and regional transport throughout Germany from May and usually costs 49 euros per month. Some countries plan cheaper rates, for example for schoolchildren or people with very low incomes. (sda/afp)
