China is provoking Taiwan with military exercises

He People’s Liberation Army (PLA) began military exercises around Taiwan in response to last Wednesday’s meeting in California between Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

He PLA Eastern Theater of Operations spokesman Shi Yihe defined the maneuvers as a “serious warning” against “provocations by separatist forces” and a “necessary action to protect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity” of China.

The exercises, which the Chinese military announced this Saturday, included the deployment of “missiles, conventional missiles, ships and aircraft”collected by state-run CCTV.

The maneuvers focused on “testing the force’s ability to exercise control over sea, air and information” with “the support of a unified command system” to “create a repressive situation in which the island is surrounded in all four directions“.

Among the mobilized weapons are Missile launch systems PHL-191And destroyer 052C, missiles equipped with Type 22 ships and J-10C fightersin addition to conventional DF-11 ballistic missiles, noted the local Global Times newspaper.

In addition, the maritime security services of the southeastern province of Fujian, which is located near Taiwan, warned that live fire exercises will take place in the waters near the coast of the said province On the 8th, 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th and 20th of this month, the local newspaper Global Times reported.

He military expert Song Zhongpingquoted by the newspaper, assures that Shandong, China’s second aircraft carrier – the first domestically produced – will take part in the maneuvers, which will last until Monday.

He The island’s defense ministry today condemned China’s military maneuverswhich he described as “an irrational act that threatens regional security and stability”.

The island’s military portfolio indicated this on its official Twitter account ordered its aircraft, ships and missile systems to “respond to activity” and “monitor the situation”.

In the Appendix, the ministry reported the incursion of 42 Chinese military aircraft into Taiwan’s air identification zone29 of which crossed the center line of the Taiwan Strait, which for decades functioned as an unofficial but tacitly respected border between China and Taiwan.

In the last two years, Chinese military aircraft have made numerous incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ, intensifying at a time when tensions between the two territories have escalated.
