This is how Putin’s special unit works

Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin (70) is trying by all means to track down and eliminate Ukrainian soldiers: to carry out his project, he created the special unit “Storm Z”.

A declassified Russian document provides detailed insight into the unit. A Ukrainian military officer analyzed the document on Twitter under the pseudonym “Tatarigami_UA”.

The task force reportedly describes itself as “an independent joint tactical combined arms company” used in particularly complex military operations, such as city raids and taking strong points.

The Russian leadership should pay particular attention to Ukrainian communication centers and important buildings. With the new unit, the Kremlin apparently wants to efficiently extract profits from difficult geographic locations and secure them in the shortest possible time. This should be done by limiting the mobility of Ukrainian troops.

Even prisoners are integrated into special units

“Sturm Z” must be flexible in use depending on the topography of the site and have a variable personnel structure. Typically, a Sturm-Z Company consists of 100 men, engaged in enemy tracking, fire support in precarious situations, and technical tasks. Convicts can also be mobilized to increase the number of soldiers needed at any time. This flexibility turns out to be very important.

But what makes combat use attractive? For the duration of their contract, the fighters receive a monthly salary of CHF 2,260. You have volunteer status. According to the analyzed paper, the training for the special company takes about 10 to 15 days. During this time, soldiers learn how to handle weapons, first aid, camouflage, reconnaissance and communication. In a refresher phase, the emphasis is mainly on coordination with other units in the Russian army. (A)
