The ‘Star Wars’ saga continues: As the studio president announced on Friday, fans can look forward to three new films in the space saga. Each of them will cover different eras of Star Wars history, says Kathleen Kennedy, 69, president of the Lucasfilm studio, which was bought by the Disney Group in 2012. In addition, each of the three films will have a different director – for the first time, a woman will also direct.

According to the studio, the story of Rey, the heroine of the last “Star Wars” trilogy of 2019, played by British actress Daisy Ridley (30), will continue in the first new episode. It’s about Rey’s attempts to revive the legendary Jedi Order.

Responsible for director for the first time

Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (44), born in Pakistan, will direct. She’s spent most of her life “meeting real heroes who overcome oppressive regimes and fight impossible odds,” said Obaid-Chinoy, who has won two Oscars for documentaries about violence against women. “I think that’s the heart of Star Wars,” said the director, explaining her fascination with the space saga.

Director James Mangold (59) would make another movie – his movie will be about the origin of the Jedi Order. The third film is directed by Dave Filoni (48), who has already produced several TV series based on “Star Wars”, including the hugely successful third season of “The Mandalorian”.

However, fans will have to be patient for the first of the three films: it should not appear in cinemas until 2025. (AFP/imh)
