The driver ran over several tourists from Italy and Great Britain until the car overturned. Emergency services confirmed that the 35-year-old suspect was shot dead.

Last night, one Italian was killed and seven people were injured in allegedly deliberate rage in an Israeli city Tel Aviv, they were all tourists from Italy and the United Kingdom. The attacker, an Arab-Israeli man, was also killed, Israeli media and emergency medical services said.

Members of the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service declared the 36-year-old Italian dead and evacuated seven people who were hit by the car to the hospital, according to a spokesman for the medical organization in a statement reported by Efe.

Among the injured, three people are in medium serious condition, while four are slightly injured, MDA announced. They would all be tourists, two Italians and five British. According to the police, the driver of the vehicle hit several pedestrians on Central Avenue in Tel Aviv’s waterfront area until it overturned. After that, agents in the area saw the driver trying to get a weapon, before which they shot and killed him, a police spokesman said. According to the media, the alleged perpetrator of the attack was an Arab-Israeli from Kafer Qasem, an Arab-majority town in central Israel.

This incident happened in the middle of sudden increase in violence in the region in the middle of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and after another attack today in which two Israeli women were killed in the occupied West Bank.

Following the attack in Tel Aviv, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for border police reserve units to be deployed as reinforcements in the face of escalating violence in the region.

Israel carried out several retaliatory attacks on the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon this morning, after Palestinian militants fired rockets following days of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces at the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

This 2023 was the deadliest start to the year in the frame Palestinian-Israeli conflict since 2000. In just over three months since the beginning of this year, 18 people have been killed in attacks by Palestinians or Arab-Israelis, while at least 92 Palestinians have been killed in violent incidents of various kinds with Israel. .

Last year, the city of Tel Aviv – a liberal area and fairly isolated from the dynamics of the conflict in the rest of the region – was the target of several attacks that caused death.
