Moose turns up at the hospital in Alaska without an appointment

A young moose made a surprise visit to a hospital in the US state of Alaska. Videos and photos that have surfaced on the Internet show the animal wandering through the lobby of the hospital in the city of Anchorage in apparent astonishment. The young moose enjoyed the potted plants in the hospital foyer, the Anchorage Daily News reported on its website on Friday.

“We received a call from one of our dispatchers that a moose had entered the building and was eating our plants in the lobby,” hospital security chief Randy Hughes told the newspaper. If it had been an adult animal or an aggressive animal, Hughes said he would have called animal control. But security and staff eventually managed to lead the moose safely to a door and out of the building, as shown on video. Patients and onlookers, reportedly seated behind wheelchairs, cheered as the animal made its way out.

All the excitement had apparently taken the moose with it. Back in the fresh air, the wild animal lay down in the snow and took a nap, Hughes told the newspaper. (sda/dpa)
