Forwarder hunts thugs on striking truck drivers

For a few days now, about 50 truck drivers have been on strike at the German road service site Grafenhäusen-West in the state of Hesse. The reason: Your employer, a forwarding agent from Poland, would not have paid your wages or only partially.

The strike caused an uproar in Germany, with many showing solidarity with the drivers. But the forwarder himself did not like the sudden publicity at all.

The situation escalated at 11 a.m. on Good Friday. The forwarder drove to the gas station on the highway together with a gang of crooks from Poland. As the newspaper “Bild” reports, several vehicles, including even an armored car, drove up to the trucks. The men then violently tried to get into the trucks of the striking drivers.

Rest area temporarily closed

The police arrived quickly. An escalation could be as good as prevented, says a spokeswoman for the newspaper. “Under the threat of pepper spray and baton, we were able to prevent a major confrontation in time and separate the groups of people from each other.”

According to information from the German news agency, the catchment area had to be temporarily closed. Apparently the freight forwarder had brought a replacement driver. Apparently he and his gang of thugs tried to drag the striking men out of their trucks and then take the trucks back to Poland with replacement drivers.

The police arrested 16 people, including the bankrupt company manager. They are suspected of serious disturbance of public order, coercion, threats, attempted dangerous bodily harm and disturbance of a meeting. (zis)
