According to a joint statement provided by the Elysee, Xi Jinping pledged to “support every effort to restore peace.”

President of France, Emmanuel Macron and its Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinpingthey released this Friday a joint declaration in which they undertake to resolve the conflict in Ukraine on the basis of international law and following the principles contained in the Charter of the United Nations.

“Both countries emphasize the importance of scrupulous respect for humanitarian law by all parties to the conflict,” said the document shared by the Elysee, which also affects prevent armed attacks on nuclear power plants and ensure security at the Zaporizhia factory.

Likewise, Paris and Beijing agreed on the importance of «promote global security and stability», with a special focus on preventing nuclear war and avoiding an arms race.

They also agreed to increase coordination and cooperation to “protect” the effectiveness of arms control and non-proliferation treaties, as well as move toward nuclear disarmament and “peaceful use of nuclear energy“, it is stated in the document shared by Elizei.

The text, however, is at no time does he mention Russia and the ‘roadmap’ for the conflict in Ukraine has not been established apart from the fact that it must comply with international law, although it is true that China promised to “support all efforts to restore peace in Ukraine.”

French diplomacy noticed a day earlier, on the occasion of the meeting between Macron and Xi, that the Chinese president expressed tendency to contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

However, even though the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, thanked the Chinese President for such an attitude, neither the Chinese reports nor the joint declaration of Paris and Beijing include such a possibility.

Thus, Macron and Xi agreed to “strengthen political dialogue and promote mutual political trust” with “annual meetings” of the two heads of state and strengthening the exchange of views on the economic and financial level, as well as on humanitarian issues.
