Secret documents about US and NATO plans to support the Ukrainian army ahead of a Russian offensive in Ukraine have surfaced online.

Secret documents from the US and NATO are currently circulating on Twitter and Telegram. According to The New York Times, these allegedly contained top secret plans for building up the Ukrainian army ahead of a planned offensive against Russia.

Senior officials in the Biden administration said the documents were leaked on social media this week. The US Department of Defense Pentagon is currently investigating who could be behind the publication. “We are aware of the social media reports and the department is investigating the matter,” said Sabrina Singh, 34, the Pentagon’s deputy press secretary. Military analysts believe the documents were distributed through pro-Russian government channels.

US President Joe Biden (80) had tried to have the documents erased. However, as of Thursday evening, all attempts to remove the documents from the transmitters were unsuccessful.

Is the Kremlin behind this?

Particularly striking: as reported by military analysts, certain information in the newspapers has been modified. Accordingly, US estimates of Ukrainian war casualties were overestimated and estimates of Russian troops killed. Analysts say the changes could point to a disinformation campaign by the Kremlin.

The documents are five weeks old and contain no concrete battle plans. Still, the documents provide many tantalizing leads for military insiders. They could extract valuable information from it, such as arms delivery schedules.

As the paper goes on to say, the published documents are the first known breakthrough of Russian espionage since the start of the war.

The United States has provided Ukraine with information about command posts, ammunition depots and other key intersections in Russian military lines since the Russian invasion broke out in February 2022. Thanks to this real-time intelligence, the Ukrainians were able to attack Russian troops, kill high-ranking generals and force ammunition supplies to be moved further away from the Russian front.

It is unclear who leaked the documents and whether Moscow was involved. What is clear is that the revelations of the original documents are a major intrusion into US intelligence efforts to help Ukraine. (dzc/SDA)
