Meghan Duggan defends “Pride Nights” in the NHL so emotionally

American ice hockey star Meghan Duggan gave an emotional speech to NHL players about the integration of the LGBTQ+ community. The Olympic and seven-time world champion was invited to address the team ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Pride Night.

A “Pride Night” is an ice hockey game that promotes LGBTQ+ inclusion and acceptance – often in conjunction with rainbow motifs. Some of these events have been canceled in recent months and some players have refused to wear the jersey.

Duggan explained how important Pride Night is as someone who has faced discrimination. The American is married to former Canadian international Gillian Apps. The couple has two children.
