Authorities take care of “climate Shakira” Anja Windl (25)! As the tabloid “Heute” reports, the immigration police are considering a multi-year residence ban for the German “Last Generation” activist, who is studying psychology in Austria.
Windl is one of the most prominent figures associated with the activist group. The climate gluer from Lower Bavaria has already piled up a thick file of administrative fines, she revealed to the newspaper. A sticky protest in Klagenfurt apparently flooded the camel.
Windel is angry. “I think it’s outrageous that I’m being denied the right to protest in Austria,” she explains. “I’ve lived in Austria for years and have the center of my life here, including my studies – but it remains to be seen to what extent this can be legally enforced,” she says belligerently.
“Unfortunately, government repression attempts to distract from our own climate protection failures are just taking on arbitrary proportions. Instead of taking effective action to ensure that the emission reduction targets we have set for ourselves are met, those who draw attention to the government’s irresponsibility are being punished,” she laments.
On Thursday she has to report to the aliens police, and then everything else will be clarified. Windl claims she has already secretly learned from several people that she is a thorn in the side of the authorities because of her publicity campaigns on major traffic routes. Now they want to get rid of it with a residence ban, says Windl.
On Instagram, she posted a smiling selfie on Wednesday with the addition: “If the Austrian immigration and asylum authorities try to deport you to Germany, but the sun is shining”. She added a solar emoji to the statement.
In March, Windl and her comrades-in-arms made headlines for having to end a protest early for some strange reason. Some climate stickers had to go to the toilet. Windl explained at the time, “Part of the urge to pee just got in the way.”
To bolster their political demands, the “Last Generation” rely on radical protests. To do this, members of the group stick on the street or on bottom photographs of famous artists in museums. (nad)
