The Russian Commissioner for Juveniles denies the abduction of Ukrainian children

Bakhmut is still the scene of heavy fighting between Ukrainian forces and fighters of Wagner’s group. And despite the fact that the mercenary leader believed that the city in the Donetsk region was captured last Sunday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces assured that yesterday, “units of the defense forces repelled 32 enemy attacks» in the east of the city.

Wagner’s boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, admitted that Ukrainian troops had not withdrawn from the city, despite the fact that he declared the city “legally” occupied on Sunday by raising a Russian flag at the local town hall.

Some mercenaries for others

Baymouth is in its last stages, but it doesn’t stop falling. And to add more complications to Prigozhin, British intelligence indicated in a statement yesterday that Russia would consider replacing PMC Wagner with other groups of private mercenaries.

Friction between Moscow’s military leadership and the mercenary leader is fueling this double benefit maneuver for Russia. On the one hand, to ensure the obedience of mercenaries who fight for their interests. On the other hand, to ensure that the death of regular Russian soldiers does not contaminate Russian public opinion, since the death of mercenaries is not so “serious”. Prigozhin is already packing his bags to return to the Sahel.

The Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Russia, Maria Lvova-Belova, who is accused by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of the illegal deportation of children from Ukraine together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, assured this Tuesday that no minor has been separated from her family. “We don’t know of a single case where a (Ukrainian) child was taken from his family to be placed in an adoptive family”said Lvova-Belova at a press conference in Moscow.

The minor’s defense attorney assured that no Ukrainian child was given up for adoption in Russia and that 380 minors from Donetsk and Lugansk are under the guardianship of Russian families. According to Lvova-Belova, this was done in order to minors “keep your roots” and they can return to their relatives if they appear, Efe reported.

The child’s lawyer insisted that the minors who are now under the guardianship of Russian citizens have lost their parents in Ukraine or had their guardianship taken away, so the children are in social institutions. Regarding the accusations of the ICC, he repeated that he did not know the details of the case against him. “They didn’t send us any documents. The accusations are very abstract. There is no fact”he assured. “We will continue to work as before,” he added.

Ukraine has documented nearly 20,000 cases of Ukrainian minors from Moscow-controlled territory of the country who were deported to Russia or separated from their families by the occupation authorities. Some of these children were given for adoption to Russian parents.to whom the Government of Kyiv addressed directly to warn them that it knows their identity and that they must be held accountable for illegally offering to take custody of these minors.
