The key players in the Trump trial

Donald Trump is the first former US president to be indicted. He is expected in New York today to face charges. These are the key participants in the Trump trial.

For the first time in history, prosecutors have charged Donald Trump, a former president of the United States. About 30 charges were reported against him – so far none have been officially announced. The costs are: Silent payment to Stormy Daniels. However, he is not accused of the payment itself, which is not illegal and which he does not deny, but of his handling of it. It may violate campaign finance rules. The the exact charges will not be known until the reading.

Daniels and other actors in the Trump trial are currently dominating international headlines. An overview of the main participants:

Everything in detail:

The suspect: Donald Trump

Donald Trump, the protagonist in the Trump trial. The former US president is expected to attend the impeachment hearing in New York on Tuesday. This makes him the first US president in history to be impeached.

He allegedly paid hush money to Stormy Daniels during his campaign in 2016. The two reportedly had an affair in 2006, shortly after Trump’s wife Melania Trump gave birth to their son Barron. According to Daniels, the two kept in touch for months after the weekend.

The witness: Stormy Daniels

Stormy Daniels is an American porn actress. And because of them, Trump is being indicted. He allegedly paid her $ 130,000 in hush money in 2016 to prevent her from opening up about a possible affair between the two. Trump denies the affair, but has not paid any money.

Daniels’ real name is Stephanie Clifford. “It’s huge and epic and I’m proud,” she says of the indictment. She is now 44 years old, mother and will soon present a dating show for gay men.

Former attorney and star witness: Michael Cohen

The New York attorney handled Donald Trump and his affairs for decades. Now he is one of the key witnesses in the Trump indictment. New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigations are based on Cohen’s statements.

Before Congress in 2019, Cohen substantiated his claims that he paid Daniel’s hush money on Trump’s behalf. Cohen says Trump personally ordered hush money to be paid back to him when he was already president. So he accused Trump of criminal conduct in office.

The Accuser: Alvin Bragg

Alvin Bragg is the first US attorney in history to indict a former president. This should bring Manhattan’s first black chief prosecutor international fame. As an opponent of former President Donald Trump and therefore as an enemy of the American right.

Despite his membership in the Democratic Party, the 49-year-old is not too interested in political intrigue. Growing up in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan in the 1980s, Bragg experienced crime himself: “Before I was 21 years old, I had a gun pointed at me six times: three times by police officers and three times by non-cop.”

The judge: Juan Mercan

Juan Merchan is the man Donald Trump will answer for on Tuesday. He is known for being tough, honest and not condoning courtroom antics. The 60-year-old is known as a tough but fair bailiff who will not be tempted, even if he is personally targeted. Donald Trump is also afraid of him: “He hates me,” the accused ex-president wrote on his social network Truth Social.

Mercan is an immigrant child from Colombia. Born in the capital Bogota, he emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of six. There he grew up in the New York borough of Queens, in the Jackson Heights neighborhood, a socially disadvantaged neighborhood at the time of his youth, where many immigrants lived.

The lawyer: Joe Tacopina

Attorney Joe Tacopina is the face of Donald Trump’s defense team. He is referred to as the “go to” criminal defense attorney across the country. Tacopina condemned prosecutor Alvin Bragg’s indictment, telling Fox News on Thursday, “I’ve never been more angry about an indictment because today the rule of law died in the United States.”

He is married to his wife Tish. The couple has five children together. He also teaches the Harvard Trial Advocacy Workshop at Harvard Law School.

The Protester: Marjorie Taylor Greene

Marjorie Taylor Geene is a notorious radical MP. After Trump was impeached, she called for protest. She spoke of an “unconstitutional witch hunt” against Trump. She will also go to New York on Tuesday, the Trump supporter wrote on Twitter.

As of January 2021, she represents the 14th state of Georgia in the United States House of Representatives. Greene is known for spreading conspiracy theories and regularly inciting hatred against minorities.
