A 34-year-old has been sentenced to life in prison after the fatal shooting of a nine-year-old girl in Liverpool. The man risks at least 42 years behind bars, Manchester Crown Court announced Monday afternoon, according to a report by the British news agency PA. The convict refused to appear in court for sentencing.
While chasing a drug rival last August, the man fired into the open door of an apartment building, killing nine-year-old Olivia. The incident sparked outrage across the country.
The perpetrator denied the allegations. However, an accomplice admitted to grabbing the 34-year-old after the crime and driving away. The jury found him guilty last week of murder, attempted murder and intentional aggravated assault.
The background, according to the investigators, was a gang war in the drug scene. When a fugitive forced his way into the girl’s house through the accidentally opened door, the gunman fired after him – fatally hitting the child and injuring the mother’s wrist. (SDA/nad)
