Seven people were killed in a serious head-on collision in Thüringen (D) on Saturday evening. The alleged cause of the accident (45) was apparently drunk behind the wheel of a BMW and ended up in the oncoming lane. He survived seriously injured. Now a shocking detail has come to light: the deceased driver would have lost his driver’s license for 16 years.
According to the police, the ticket was withdrawn in 2007. The police no longer investigate negligent homicide, but on suspicion of murder, quotes “Bild” from the responsible chief inspector.
It is not yet known why the man lost his driver’s license. But he clearly didn’t care about the rules – without a ticket, but with a lot of alcohol, he would have driven on the B247 in the direction of Erfurt. Eyewitnesses reported that he had been drinking liquor in a supermarket parking lot before the horrific accident.
He then got into the BMW with his companions and drove off. The fatal accident took place on the Bad Langensalza ring road. Police are currently examining all statements.
In the accident in northern Thuringia, a BMW, a VW and a Mercedes collided in a long bend and then burned out. The driver of the accident and his passenger (34) survived. A woman (73) who was in the VW was able to free herself in time. They were all seriously injured.
Seven other people were killed. According to the newspaper “Bild”, five friends (all 19 years old), three young men and two young women were in the Mercedes. They all died in the accident. (A)
