A shocking police operation took place in the American state of Philadelphia on Thursday. Two barely dressed, screaming girls (3 and 5) were wandering the garden alone. Neighbor Hector Perez then called the police. He tells CBS Philadelphia, “They had no shirts, no pants, and no shoes on. It was raining and it was cold. They cried for their parents.”
When the police arrived, they took the girls under their wing and forced their way into the house. There, officers found a six-year-old boy locked in a dog cage fastened with zippers. There was nothing in the cage except a pillow and a blanket. It is not known how long he was imprisoned.
The responsible parents, Michelle C.* (30) and Paul W.* (31), were absent at the time of the mission. Instead, an elderly woman in a wheelchair and a man were found. They are believed to be the children’s grandmother and uncle.
There were a total of five children in the house. Two of them were at school during the police action. Whether there have been previous cases of neglect has not been confirmed.
However, Perez reports: “In recent years, the police have been here several times. I knew something was wrong. But that they lock their children in cages? I could never have imagined that.”
The police now assures that the incident will not repeat. After a health check at the hospital, all children have been placed in safe custody. They would not have suffered any physical damage.
The parents have been charged with endangering a child’s well-being and reckless endangerment and will appear in court next month.
