Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin is increasingly turning the Russian economy into a pure war economy.

The men are concentrated at their tables and put the plane together. All wear white caps with the inscription “Bekas”. Where dough used to be kneaded, drones are now being assembled for Putin’s war.

Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin (70) is increasingly restructuring the Russian economy. More than a year after the outbreak of the Russian offensive war in Ukraine, the production of war material is central to the Russian economy. As a result, some companies suddenly have to produce completely different goods.

A particularly bizarre example: instead of croissants and Weggli, a bakery in the Russian city of Tambov now produces drones. Drone production has started there “for the needs of special military operations,” the company’s deputy head Alexander Rudik told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Bakery employees develop drone

When the Russian invasion began, the small company initially sent food to the front. Medicines and clothing were added later. When the military reported that there was enough food and clothing, the bakery began producing drones in parallel with the production of bread and bagels.

Bakery boss Rudik explained in the “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” that the company’s employees had tried to develop their own drone model, using parts “that can be easily bought in an online store”. In the end, they sent several prototypes to the Russian army. The Ministry of Defense then received “valuable feedback”. Now camera-equipped reconnaissance drones called “Bekas” are gradually being sent to Ukraine. At the end of March, the first batch of 16 drones will go to the front. Soon 3D printers will be used for the production of antenna mounts and cameras.

Production costs are 25,000 to 50,000 rubles (300 to 600 francs). The company can deliver up to 200 drones per month.
