The drawing by Maria Moskalyova (13) went around the world. Last April, during art class, she painted a painting for peace in Ukraine. Next to it she wrote: “No to Ukraine’s war and glory.” A statement with fatal consequences: Moskalyova and her father felt the wrath of the Kremlin. A case was opened because of his daughter’s drawing and because he posted critical messages on social media. The child has to go to a home, the father has to go to a penal colony for two years. Ironically, Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigoshin (61) is committed to Moskalyov.
“We consider the sentencing of Alexey Moskalyov unfair,” Prigozhin writes on behalf of the Wagner group in a letter to the Tula prosecutor’s office. He criticizes that the girl has to grow up in the orphanage.
“The fighters of the Wagner group protect the interests of the Russian Federation and die honorably for their homeland and the future of the children,” Prigozhin continues. That children lose their parents and are placed in homes as a result is “a great tragedy for Russia and the future of the country,” said the otherwise unscrupulous Wagner boss. Prigozhin asks to reconsider the verdict.
Moskalyova’s parents will be stripped of custody and a hearing is scheduled for April 6, “Meduza” writes. The family has already been included in a “preventive register of families in a socially dangerous situation”. Since her father was placed under house arrest, the daughter has had no contact with him. Moskalyov lives separately from the child’s mother and raised the daughter alone.
The sentence of two years in prison was handed down in Moskalyov’s absence. He had previously escaped house arrest in Tula by cutting off his ankle bracelet. Marina Ovzyannikova, a former employee of Russia’s state broadcaster Channel 1, who entered the studio during prime time with an anti-war poster, wrote on Telegram that her friends and colleagues helped Moskalyov escape.
Moskalyov is still in Russia, but her acquaintances are looking for ways to take him to a safe place. “Everything will be fine,” she writes in a Telegram message. But the nightmare is not over yet, after all, father and daughter are still divorced.
Meanwhile, Masha Moskalyova wrote her father an emotional letter. Alexey Moskalyov’s lawyer announced this on Wednesday. “I love you very much and know that you are not to blame for anything,” the teen writes.
“Everything you do is good,” Masha encourages her father. “I think everything will be fine and we will be together,” she says optimistically.
“You are my father, the smartest, most beautiful, best father in the world,” she continues. “Please don’t give up,” she begs him. She is proud of her father. Her conclusion: a bitter truth is better than a sweet lie. With the words “I love you, you are a hero. My hero» the letter ends.
