Ex-Health Minister Humza Yousaf was elected on Tuesday to succeed Sturgeon as head of government in the British part of the country after winning an internal party selection process. The number two, former finance minister Kate Forbes, will not be a member of Yousaf’s cabinet, the British news agency PA reports in the evening.
Yousaf is regarded as Sturgeon’s political student who wants to continue the social-liberal course of his predecessor. Forbes, on the other hand, is an evangelical Christian who makes no secret of her conservative values.
According to the PA, Yousaf had offered her the post of rural affairs minister, but that would have been a demotion. The SNP advocates the detachment of Scotland from Britain. (sda/dpa)
