Putin agrees with Belarus on deployment of tactical nuclear weapons

Russian President Vladimir Putinannounced this Saturday the agreement for the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weaponsi.e. short range, on the territory of Belarus in response to Britain’s announcement of supplying Ukraine with depleted uranium ammunition. “We agreed with (Belarusian President Alexander) Lukashenko on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus without violating the non-proliferation regime,” Putin explained in an interview with Rossiya 24 television, clarifying that the reason for this agreement was none other than “the announcement by the British Deputy Defense Minister about supply Ukraine with depleted uranium ammunition, which is somehow related to nuclear technology,” he added.

Putin explained that the construction of the facilities for the storage of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus will be completed on July 1 and that they will remain under Russian control. In addition, he emphasized that this shipment does not violate nuclear non-proliferation agreements because the United States has had nuclear weapons in other countries for years.
