Chevrolet will produce the last units of the sixth-generation Camaro muscle car in January 2024. With this, the Americans draw a temporary line under the series after a production period of nine years – after almost 60 years of construction. The first generation of the sports car rolled off the assembly line in 1966, with an in-line six-cylinder and V8 engine. There will be a final version in the summer with a Collector’s Edition pack in the US.
But fans can breathe a sigh of relief: the approaching production stop does not mean the end of the Camaro model name, Chevrolet officially announced. The Americans are still leaving it open when and in what form a successor will be presented. Apparently the US automaker wants to take its time with the new Camaro, which will likely be powered purely by electric power rather than V8 engines.
Incidentally, the break is not the only one in the history of the Camaro: Chevrolet stopped production of the fourth generation in 2002 due to declining sales figures. The fifth, current version came on the market in 2009 and the sixth in 2015.
