Almost 50,000 euros for five lectures

The left-wing member of the Bundestag Sahra Wagenknecht has earned a pretty penny.

10,000 euros. This is how much the German member of the Bundestag Sahra Wagenknecht (53) earned with a lecture in Zurich. In October, Die Linke gave a keynote speech at the invitation of the asset manager Swiss Rock Asset Management on the subject of “left liberalism and the farewell to liberal society”, according to information about Wagenknecht’s side activities published by the Bundestag.

Explosive: precisely the party of Sahra Wagenknecht is demanding levies on assets worth millions in addition to the wealth tax. “We want to ask the super-rich and those who benefited from the corona crisis to pay,” said party leader Janine Wissler, 41, ahead of the 2021 federal election. If the Left Party has its way, millionaires would have to deal with at least 10 percent of their assets.

The asset managers from Zurich came up with a representative of a party that declared war on those ‘super-rich’ who also like to invest their money in Switzerland, the German ‘Tagesspiegel’ reports.

More than 14,000 euros for a panel discussion

It is not the only performance of this kind: since the beginning of the legislature, Wagenknecht has reported four more performances for Swiss clients to the Bundestag. At the Entrepreneurs Day 2021 in Bavaria, she addressed the question of whether the tech giants abused their market power (earning 14,280 euros).

In the same year she gave a lecture at the Swiss Institute for International Research on why “more coherence and community spirit” were needed (for 10,000 euros). Last year she took part in a business symposium at the “Efficiency Club” in Zurich (about 4,000 euros). And this year she attended a “Salon-Evend” of the magazine “Swiss Month” in Zurich (another 10,000 euros). In a very short time, Wagenknecht has just earned almost 50,000 euros.

This causes a lot of unrest in the party. “If MPs have tens of thousands of euros in extra income and even take money from the Swiss financial sector, plus well-paid podiums and lectures in the business community, then that is a problem,” says left chairwoman Janine Wissler (41) of the German Funke media. group.

After all, members of the Bundestag have to do their job in parliament, in the constituency and in committees. But Wagenknecht has been absent from the Bundestag vote for years. Moreover, she is not a full member of a committee. However, it is considered unlikely that Wagenknecht will step down. (two)
