Minutes of silence were held at Zaventem airport and Maalbeek metro station and flowers were laid, the Belga news agency reported on Wednesday. In the metro station, the loudspeakers broadcast the names of the 16 people who lost their lives there.

In addition, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of the attacks. The events were also attended by Brussels mayor Philippe Close, as well as survivors of the attacks and relatives of the victims.

During the attacks on 22 March 2016, three suicide bombers from the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) detonated bombs at the airport and metro station in the EU district. 32 people were killed and hundreds injured, some seriously (SDA)
