Austrian widow gets nothing from millions of inheritance

He was not happy with his wife at all. So he quickly removed her from the will and used his nurse and her husband for the $1.8 million inheritance. Despite years of marriage, the widow would receive only the obligatory portion. She resisted that. And so the case ended up first at the Innsbruck Regional Court, which dismissed the case, and then at the Supreme Court (OHG) in Austria. Here, too, the verdict was: the will is legally valid, “today” reports.

Specifically, it concerns a now deceased Tyrolean and property worth 1.8 million euros. The nurse and her husband had cared for the retiree for three years. The elder then changed his will and named the two as his heirs.

The will was even captured on video

“It was not a good marriage. The woman did not clean, did not cook, did not wash. She did not take care of her husband, who needed care,” the nurse’s lawyer said in court, according to “heute”. That is why he was so grateful that his client and her husband took care of the senior.

The widow saw it differently. She had challenged the will, arguing that guardians should not use their special position for personal gain. This is regulated in the care regulations. This should also apply to legacies.

But to make sure his wife gets only the obligatory portion, the senior even videotaped his will. That is why the OHG also decided against the widow. (lia)
