Alan Dershowitz (84) is a craftsman. He is one of the best-known criminal lawyers in the United States and represents, among others, the well-known criminals Jeffrey Epstein († 66) and OJ Simpson (75). On Sunday evening, the experienced lawyer was questioned in an interview with the conservative news channel Newsmax about the alleged imminent arrest of former US President Donald Trump (76).

Dershowitz said he expects Trump to be tried and convicted in New York City. The lawyer also believes that if convicted, Trump could still become president and even rule from prison.

“He will be charged,” Dershowitz said. “In New York, you can charge for a ham sandwich. In New York City, you can convict a ham sandwich because the jury is so unfair. Even if convicted, he could still run for president. He can run for president from prison. He can even become president from prison.”

What are Trump’s allegations about?

The investigations, led by prosecutor Alvin Bragg, 49, a Democrat, revolve around a $130,000 (approximately CHF 120,000) hush money payment that Trump’s private attorney at the time, Michael Cohen, 56, made shortly before to porn actress Stormy. the 2016 presidential election that Daniels (44) ran.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, says she had sex with Trump years before the election. The payment was apparently designed to prevent Clifford from going public, which could have hurt Trump during the election campaign. The cash flows may have violated campaign finance laws.

Trump does not deny payment of the amount to Daniels, but denies the affair and thus the possible violation of campaign finance.

Capitol storm is also under investigation

The U.S. Constitution does not prohibit convicted felons from holding or holding elected office, including president. However, Congress can pass legislation banning from office any person who has participated in an uprising against the country.

In addition to pending charges of hush money, the southern US state of Georgia is investigating possible attempted illegal interference in the results of the 2020 presidential election.
