Former US President Donald Trump is returning to one of the major online platforms after months of reluctance. “I’m back,” Trump wrote on Facebook Friday before a short clip showing him winning the 2016 election. The largest online network in the world allowed him to re-enter the platform at the end of January. However, Trump initially preferred to reach out to supporters through his own Twitter copy, Truth Social.
Trump wants to win the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election. He was banned from major online platforms at the end of his tenure after his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021.
Trump has since regained access to all major online services. The YouTube video platform lifted restrictions on Trump’s account on Friday. His Twitter account was reactivated last fall by new owner Elon Musk. On Friday, however, the last tweet was from January 2021. Before and during his tenure in the White House, Twitter was Trump’s main platform with more than 80 million followers. At Truth Social, the ex-president has far fewer subscribers. (sda/dpa)
