Indian low-cost airline Spice Jet has grounded two pilots for consuming coffee and pastries in the cockpit. That reports CNN. One of the pilots had posted a photo on Twitter showing an uncovered mug with the airline’s logo on it.
The photo sparked outrage in the aviation world and on the internet. Because the hot drink was perilously close to the control levers in the cockpit.
The pilots also held gujiyas, a sweet fried pastry. It is typically eaten during the Hindu festival of Holi, which took place on March 8 this year. A Spice Jet spokesperson told CNN on Friday that an investigation was underway. Both pilots were removed from the roster until their completion.
Shakti Lumba, retired pilot and former operations manager of the Indian airline IndiGo, speaks of a “feel good photo” of the pilots. The action was “immature” and “undesirable”. Because they are responsible for the safety of the aircraft and its passengers. “It was completely inexplicable behavior.” All pilots are aware of the dangers of spilled liquids in the cockpit. Most corporate and airline regulations also prohibit placing food and liquids on the center console.
Under this console are many electrical wires that are used to control the aircraft. Spilling a hot drink on it can cause a short circuit.
Spice Jet has experienced a number of incidents over the past year, prompting several investigations by the aviation authority. In May, an aircraft’s autopilot malfunction caused several injuries. The regulator also ordered the airline’s flight operations to be cut in half for eight weeks after it was involved in at least eight technical failures. (two)
