The Kremlin has criticized planned jet deliveries to Ukraine

“It goes without saying that this technology will be destroyed as part of the special military operation,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday, according to the Interfax news agency.

From Peskow’s point of view, the fighter jets cannot change the course of the war. They would only bring additional hardship to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, the 55-year-old said.

“This is just one more example of how some NATO member states are increasing their direct involvement in the conflict,” Peskov responded to reports of the planned arms shipments.

After Warsaw promised Ukraine MiG-29 fighter jets on Thursday, the government in Bratislava also approved the transfer of such fighter jets to Kiev on Friday.

Ukraine has been demanding for months not only tanks and artillery, but also warplanes from the West to recapture the territories occupied by Russia. So far there are no commitments from other states, especially for the Western F-16s requested by Kiev.

Ukraine justifies its demands by saying that the aircraft are needed, among other things, to defend against Russian missile attacks. For months, Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s power plants to plunge the country’s population into cold and darkness during the cold season.
