Wagner’s boss invents a crazy conspiracy of Putin

No unit has had as many successes in Ukraine as the Wagner mercenary group. They fight no matter the cost. The group is led by Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin (61), who has been friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) for years. The relationship now seems strained. Prigozhin writes on Telegram about a Kremlin conspiracy against him.

Prigozhin is said to have received a question from the Russian newspaper “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” about an alleged conversation between Putin and Security Council officer and secretary Nikolai Patrushev (71). He allegedly told the president that “in one and a half to two months” there would be nothing left of the Wagner group.

Patrushev believed that Prigozhin could rally the remaining Wagner mercenaries to attack Russian territory. Prigozhin’s aim could even be to seize power in the regions bordering Ukraine and possibly advance further inland.

Did Prigozhin come up with the conspiracy?

The officer is said to have suggested keeping a close eye on the Wagner troops. Putin would have demanded even more. His order to Patrushev: «To neutralize Wagner in general and Yevgeny Prigozhin in particular». As a result, Prigozhin published a voice message claiming to know nothing about such actions and conversations.

Remarkable: the press investigation does not appear anywhere else and Nezavisimaya Gazeta has not written an article about Prigozhin or about a conversation between Patrushev and Putin. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), there is no evidence to suggest such a conversation. Just the telegram mail from Prigozhin.

According to ISW experts, the fact that there is no further evidence of the conversations indicates that Prigozhin fabricated the entire conspiracy. In this way, if his Wagner mercenaries lose, he could portray Patrushev and the Security Council as scapegoats for the defeat. (jwg)
