It is a radical change at the German tabloid “Bild”: the current editors-in-chief Johannes Boie (39), Alexandra Würzbach (55) and Claus Strunz (56) have to resign immediately.
“Bild” Group CEO Claudius Senst (37) justifies the decision as follows: “Bild” is number 1 in Germany, and it is our claim that it will remain so in the Digital Only era. This is a fundamental transformation in editorial, organizational and cultural terms. It also requires changes in the editor-in-chief.”
This is now slimmer: instead of four, only two people should be in charge. New are Marion Horn (57) and Robert Schneider (46). Horn worked for Axel Springer for more than 25 years, from 2013-2019 as first editor-in-chief of “Bild am Sonntag”. The two represent “our path to the future,” Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, said in a statement.
The new editor-in-chief will continue to develop «Bild» journalism and strategically, positioning it with a strong tabloid profile and actively promoting digital change.
It was already known that Schneider would become editor-in-chief – but not when he started. Now it is clear: from April 17, he will take over the helm. Until then, Horn was editor-in-chief of both “Bild” and “Bild am Sonntag”.
Following Schneider’s arrival, Horn and Schneider will lead “Bild” with deputy editors René Bosch, Timo Lokoschat, Tanja May, Paul Ronzheimer, Mandy Sachse and Yvonne Weiss. (SDA/ml)
