Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Berlin

class=”sc-3778e872-0 gWjAEa”>

In addition to barriers around the hotel where the head of government is staying near the Kurfürstendamm and traffic diversions, air traffic restrictions apply throughout Berlin and the surrounding area, the police said. In total, more than 3,000 police officers are present.

Netanyahu was due to arrive in Berlin on Wednesday evening for a working visit. As usual, the highest security level in the capital applies to him. On Thursday he will meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the Chancellery and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Bellevue Palace.

A visit to the Holocaust memorial on track 17 at Grunewald train station is pre-planned. All places are cordoned off and guarded over a large area. Parked vehicles and objects are removed. Only residents or people who work there have access to the areas.

Netanyahu’s visit was accompanied by protests. Among other things, they are directed against the reform of the legal system that his right-wing religious government has in mind. The largest demonstration will be registered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin at 3 p.m. on Thursday with 1,000 participants, police said. The radical left scene also mobilized against the visit.
