There were four or five, he alone: A group of Ukrainians is said to have jumped a Russian (21) in Singen (D), near the Swiss border, on Friday evening. The argument broke out around 9 p.m. in front of an ice cream parlor on August-Ruf-Strasse.

Suddenly the Ukrainians would have beaten their victim, the police write in their statement. Pepper spray would also have been used to disable the 21-year-old. The group is said to have consisted of four or five Ukrainians. After the attack, the men fled. The police are looking for witnesses.

What exactly is behind this cowardly attack is unclear. But it is not the first time a Russian has been publicly attacked since the start of the war in Ukraine.

“You have no business here!”

In mid-February, another Russian was attacked during a football match at Basel’s St. Jakob Park. The man, who studies in Freiburg (D), wanted to see FC Basel’s match against Servette FC. But when he filmed the match and commented in Russian, he was attacked by fans. In the video you hear a Swiss call: “You have no business here!” In addition, they kicked him, insulted him and tried to knock his mobile phone out of his hand, the Russian reported after the attack.

FC Basel distanced itself from the attack and apologized to the Russian. “We are sorry for what you had to endure in our match against Servette and we hope you are well,” the post read. However, the club explained to Blick that it was not a Russophobic attack.

In the fan sector, there is no tolerance when filming, “regardless of where the person comes from and what language he speaks,” said a spokesperson for FC Basel. Filming is not prohibited, but ultrafans generally panic during filming. “Of course that does not justify violence,” said FC Basel. (lia)
