Tensions on the Korean peninsula have escalated significantly since last year. According to the US Forces Korea (USFK), field exercises will also take place during the Freedom Shield maneuver. Several field exercises codenamed Warrior Shield FTX have been underway for weeks. The US has stationed 28,500 troops in South Korea to deter North Korea. Like Japan, South Korea also falls under the nuclear umbrella of the United States.
