14 people in Austria swept away by avalanche – three injured US Congress votes to release Secret Service information about Corona

14 German ski hikers were swept away in an avalanche in the Austrian Alps. As the police announced on Sunday, ten winter sports enthusiasts were partially buried the day before in Schruns in Vorarlberg and were able to free themselves from the snow masses.

Another four people were completely buried under the avalanche, but they were quickly located and freed. Three people were injured in the accident and required medical treatment.

On Saturday morning several groups of ski hikers from Germany climbed a mountain pass. When the first group had reached an altitude of about 2200 meters, an avalanche was released in a mountain gully.

At that time, according to the police, there was a significant avalanche danger. Due to snowfall, fog and poor visibility, no helicopter could fly to the scene of the accident. The ski walkers were equipped with complete avalanche equipment to locate buried subjects. Some of them also wore avalanche airbags, which help them stay on the surface of the snow masses instead of being buried. (sda/dpa)
