Ex-boss of “Bild” panics when checking tickets

class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

Julian Reichelt (42), former editor-in-chief of the German daily Bild, has never made a secret of his contempt for Deutsche Bahn. On his YouTube channel, he recently disparagingly described it as “the mess of the country” and “the most dysfunctional, broken and hopeless company in Europe”.

Last Friday, the former “Bild” boss even caused a police operation with his behavior on the train. As the “Mirror” reports, the reason should have been a ticket check.

Loud complaints about Deutsche Bahn

The incident is said to have happened last Friday in an ICE from Koblenz to Berlin. Reichelt would have been in first class. He was on his way home. Reichelt lives and works in Berlin.

For Reichelt, however, the train journey developed into a debacle at the latest when the tickets were checked. Although the journalist had a valid ticket, he could not personally identify himself with the train staff.

Those who buy an online ticket from Deutsche Bahn, as Reichelt did, should bear in mind that they must show an ID when checking in on the train. Reichelt also did not have a driver’s license or a photographed ID on his cell phone.

When the train crew returned to Reichelt fifteen minutes later, he was still sitting there empty-handed. He then began to complain loudly about Deutsche Bahn.

According to several eyewitnesses, Reichelt would have tried to use his celebrity bonus. The train staff must know him, after all he is one of Germany’s most famous journalists. The train conductor then replied to Reichelt that he did not know him and that the rules would apply to everyone.

After fifteen minutes, the police let him go

When Reichelt could not be calmed down, the train crew felt compelled to report to the federal police. He was already waiting at Berlin’s central station and took the ex-“Bild” boss to establish his identity.

According to an eyewitness, Reichelt himself behaved unwillingly and filmed the police officers with his mobile phone. Reichelt would not have stayed long at the police station. The officials released him after about fifteen minutes. It is not clear what consequences he should expect for his behavior.

It is not the first time that Reichelt has caused a stir on a Deutsche Bahn train. In January 2022, he got into a fight with employees about why non-vaccinated people were allowed to eat a chocolate bar in the train bistro but not in the compartment. (ceded)
