A dozen dead in the largest Russian offensive with drones and missiles

After the previous massive bombing on February 10, which was Moscow’s retaliation for the hero’s welcome given to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Europe, Kiev expected another large-scale attack to coincide with the anniversary of the start of the war. But Russian forces launched it as soon as the celebration of International Women’s Day ended, overnight Wednesday and early yesterday. Zelenski called these new strikes “miserable tactics”.

The provisional balance sheet says: a dozen deaths missiles that reached Lviv, in the westernmost part, passing through Odesa, Zaporizhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv and, of course, Kyiv, the capital. In everything, they were seen ten of the country’s twenty-seven regions were hit by a rain of bombs. The offensive destroyed infrastructure, mainly energy.

Kharkiv was left without electricity, water and heating, which was repeated in many other parts of Ukraine. In the region of Lviv, a missile fell on a settlement of dachas (summer houses), causing, according to the local governor, five deaths. The head of the administration of the presidency Andriy Yermak reported four more deaths in the city of Kherson when bombs hit a transport station. In Dnieper, according to the regional authorities, one man was killed and two people were injured.

Odesa Governor Maxim Marchenko said the attacks destroyed power plants and damaged residential buildings. His counterpart from the Khmelnitsky region, Segii Gamalii, also condemned the strikes on “critical infrastructure”. There were injuries in Kyiv, according to Mayor Vitaly Klichkó, who reported power outages in 15% of homes. The bombings left scores of cars on fire or riddled with shrapnel, according to photos posted on social media by users.

This convinced the command of the Ukrainian army Russia launched 81 missiles, of which 34 were shot down air defense systems. “Last night, the enemy carried out a massive attack on critical infrastructure,” said Army Commander-in-Chief Valeri Zaluzhny.

The Russian army used, according to the Ukrainian command, kamikaze Shahed drones, S-300 and X-22 missiles, Kalibr and Kinzhal hypersonic cruise missiles. The spokesman of the Kyiv Air Force, Yuriy Ignat, claimed that “for the first time, the Russians targeted Ukraine with such different missiles.” “I don’t remember this happening before,” he emphasized. After the attack a month ago, Ukraine has practically managed to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore the supply of electricity, water and heating.

Retribution for sabotage

«In response to the terrorist actions organized by Kiev in the Bryansk region last day 2 The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a a massive revenge attack“, explained the Russian Ministry of Defense. His military note stated that “key elements of the Ukrainian military, energy and military infrastructure were hit by high-precision weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. All selected targets were destroyed.” But Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter that Russia had not attacked military targets. According to him, it had not hit any military infrastructure: “It was plain barbarism.”

Meanwhile, in the Donetsk region, the bloody battle for Bakhmut continues. The mercenary head of the Wagner Group, Evgueni Prigozhin, confirmed yesterday that his fighters had captured the town of Dubovo-Vassilivka, north of the city.
