Strange propaganda on Russian state television: The well-known propagandist Olga Skabeeva (38) claimed in the television program “60 Minutes” that certain restaurants in Great Britain have to serve squirrels because they suffer from food shortages. This is reported by an adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior, Anton Gerashchenko (44). Twitter.

The British have put all their money into arms aid for Ukraine and are now getting the tit for tat. “Considering that they have a lot of animals in their parks that you can eat, why not get them when there is already a food shortage,” Skabeeva said on the show. Skabeyeva is one of Russia’s most prominent propagandists, often taking extreme positions on the war in Ukraine.

She added: “The British are not shying away from helping Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky. So they eat squirrels, but at the same time they continue to deliver weapons.” Britain is one of Ukraine’s first allies after the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression and has provided the war-torn country with major military and humanitarian aid.

Twitter users are mocking

In fact, the UK is suffering from food shortages. However, it is about fresh fruit rather than meat, and the reasons for this can be found more in global weather, electricity prices and Brexit bureaucracy than in the war in Ukraine. Therefore, the British do not have to eat, at least not involuntarily.

But how did Skabeyeva come up with that? The answer sheds light on how the Russian propaganda machine works. The recipe: combine a true message with false context. In early March, a small group of animal rights activists made headlines in the UK. They had proposed putting gray squirrels on local restaurant menus. The reason: The rodents threaten the native red squirrels and their population must be contained.

Finally, the most important question: what does squirrel meat taste like? Someone on Twitter has an answer: “A bit like venison, with a frog tone.”
