Behind Secretary Antony Blinken, he is probably one of the best-known representatives of the US State Department – now Ned Price is stepping down as spokesman.
Price will remain with the ministry and will start working directly with Minister of Foreign Affairs Blinken in the future, the ministry announced on Tuesday (local time). “Ned helped the U.S. government defend and promote press freedom worldwide, and he exemplified the transparency and openness we advocate for in other countries,” said Blinken, praising the 40-year-old’s work.
Price began work as a spokesman in January 2021. Just days after taking office, he reinstated the State Department’s daily press briefings, it said. These were irregular only during the administration of then US President Donald Trump. In the past two years, Price has given more than 200 briefings.
American broadcaster NBC reported that Price would remain in office until mid-March. Then the current deputy, Vedant Patel, takes over. (sda/dpa)
