Air conditioning stickers stick again after the sentence in prison

The climate group “Last Generation” is known for its sticking campaigns. Whether in court, on the red carpet or on the public road, the activists are driving motorists into a frenzy. Now two members have to go to jail for the first time.

The court of Heilbronn in the state of Baden-Württemberg on Monday sentenced activists to two and three months in prison respectively for a roadblock – without probation.

The two men raised their hands on a street in Heilbronn in early February. Sentences were not suspended because the two activists had already been charged with similar crimes. Two women and a man who also took part in the roadblock were fined 60 daily rates. Heilbronn is participating in a model project in Baden-Württemberg testing accelerated processes.

“I was in court this morning”

It is the first time that such a harsh punishment has been imposed on the controversial climate stickers. After the decision, which was made in an accelerated procedure, the group “Last Generation” spoke of a “breach of a dam” and announced protests across Germany.

And indeed: on the same day after the court hearing, the stickers again blocked the streets. A video shows the demonstrators sitting at an intersection and holding hands. “I was in court this morning, I was sentenced to three months in prison,” explains one of the “Last Generation”. “I’m here again today, although I know I could get another prison sentence.” (lia/AFP)
