Colombian authorities have detained 15 people they accuse of belonging to two drug-trafficking groups allegedly responsible for sending cocaine to the United States – which is seeking their extradition – and the country Central America by sea, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
In the police action carried out on the coast Caribbean – in Riohachadepartment of La Guajira and Santa Marta, department of Magdalena – eight and seven persons were arrested, respectively, who were part of two criminal structures identified as the drug trafficking clan ‘Los Pájaros’ and a transnational network.
The seven men arrested in Riohacha belonged to ‘birds’and they are allegedly responsible for moving tons of cocaine by speedboats to the Caribbean islands and some Central American countries, the prosecutor’s office said.
They are among those arrested Albis Alberto Pinedo Alarcón, Libardo Enrique Rojas Quintero, Alexander de Jesús Sierra La Torre, Yan David Salazar Quintero, Jhon Alexander Cataño Herrera, Evelio Gouriyu Gouriyu and Rufino Alberto Gouriyu Uriana.
Due to these facts, “the said members are requested to be extradited by A United States District Courtfor the Southern District of Florida on charges related to drug trafficking,” the prosecution added.
On the other hand, eight alleged members of a transnational criminal structure were detained in Santa Marta and Riohacha, who sought extradition from the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas on charges of conspiracy to commit crimes and drug trafficking.
According to the international request, between 2018 and 2022, they would participate in the delivery of several shipments of cocaine from the northern coast of Colombia to NOW.
The wanted citizens are: Álvaro Luis Deluque Pallares, Pedro Emilio Hincapié Gallardo, Charle Portilla Salcedo, Angello Caicedo Atehortúa, Carlos Alfredo Becerra Castro, Lina Gisseth Barrera Sarmiento.
Also Juan Camilo Valderrama Taborda and Angel Julio Arroyo Calderon.
The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office notified the United States Embassy in Colombia of the arrestswith “in order to complete the appropriate legal proceedings.”
