Russians build embarrassing tanks with old naval guns

Apparently everything is missing: ammunition, equipment, weapons. The Russian army seems to be in a desolate state. Even Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin (61) has criticized the circumstances. He and his mercenaries would not receive ammunition. There are plenty of projectiles, “but career-oriented politicians, assholes, assholes have to sign first” for them to be delivered, he scolded at the end of February.

The Wagner group has now received the necessary ammunition. However, this does not solve the delivery problem. Because: there is also a lack of vehicles. Too many have already been destroyed by the Ukrainian army.

The Russians can’t keep up with production. And so, of course, there is a lot of improvisation. What was there will be reused. This is evident from photos that have appeared on social media. It shows: a new type of tank made from old parts. It consists of a troop carrier, an MT-LB and a scrapped naval gun, a 2M-3 anti-aircraft gun. That reports the “Defense Express”.

Evidence of the pitiful state of the military

The guns are said to be old, dating back to the 1940s. Although it is unclear exactly when the shots were taken, it is clear to the military experts of the “Defense Express” that the Russians have long since begun to “modernize” of their remaining vehicles. And this creation of a naval gun is currently being praised by the Russians. The work was “incredible” and would give the military an edge.

On the other hand, the “new” tanks were met with much derision on Twitter. “That speaks volumes about the dire state into which the Russian arms industry has changed,” writes the Account Tendar, which has commented extensively on what has happened since the beginning of the war.

The design reminds him and other military analysts of homemade weapons used by the Islamic State terror group in the Syrian desert.

Another user writes: “Are these vehicles intended for stationary use? I don’t see how anyone could drive it without using up the entire local fuel reserve.”

Whether these naval gun tanks are actually used in the war in Ukraine is not clear. Strange as the design may seem, military experts advise caution. Because: it is still a military vehicle, equipped with a deadly weapon. (jmh)
