Station boss in custody – strikes in Greece continue Twelve days until the atomic bomb

The Greek authorities have taken into custody the station master of the city of Larisa after the serious train accident that killed at least 57 people. As his lawyer told Greek media on Monday morning, his client admitted to having hit the wrong switch. This led to a collision of an intercity with a freight train last week.

The hearing by the judiciary ended Sunday evening after more than seven hours too late, according to the lawyer. The railway employee faces a prison sentence of 10 years to life for multiple manslaughter, lawyers said on state radio on Monday.

Meanwhile, Greek railway workers went on strike for the fifth day in a row. They protested against the ailing state of the Greek railways. The worst accident in the history of Greek railways took place last Wednesday evening. A passenger train with about 350 people on board had ended up on a track where a freight train was approaching due to a wrong switch position. (saw/sda/dpa)
