Series “Arte” about the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Italy

Arte will screen the series “And outside the night” on March 15 and 16. She talks about the tension and activism that the kidnapping of the high-ranking politician provoked in the Italian government and society.

Despite all the external events, it is a very intimate story that co-screenwriter and director Marco Bellocchio shows. The multi-award-winning filmmaker, who often deals with Italian history and politics in his work, is particularly interested in the psychological and emotional states of his characters.

Moro was kidnapped on March 16, 1978 by the underground organization “Red Brigades”. On May 9, the former head of government and Christian Democratic politician was found dead in the trunk of a car in the middle of Rome.

Although the Moros family called on Giulio Andreotti’s Christian Democratic government to negotiate with the kidnappers, the Prime Minister rejected talks with the “Red Brigades”. The underground organization had demanded political recognition for Moro’s release.

The “Red Brigades” are held responsible for nearly 15,000 attacks in the 1970s and 1980s. In the “Years of Lead”, more than 400 people were killed in attacks in Italy.
