The conflict between the US and Russia continues to escalate. Putin repeatedly speaks of a “proxy war” of the United States in Ukraine. In an article in the military magazine “Voyennaya Misl” (“War Thoughts” in English), which is published by the Russian Ministry of Defense, authors already talk about a new special operation. Russia must respond to the “American aggressor” – even if it means using nuclear weapons.
“Nuclear weapons are the most important and cheapest way to prevent the parties from destabilizing relations and unleashing hostilities,” Lieutenant General Igor Fazletdinov begins his article. “The United States is gradually losing its leading role in the world,” he says.
The lieutenant general portrays the Russian Federation as a scapegoat for the Americans. “Their political and military course towards Russia is becoming increasingly aggressive,” says Fazletdinov. The US therefore wants to destroy Russia’s nuclear potential and poses a threat. In his ten-page article, he claims that NATO and America are ready to attack Russia with nuclear weapons and pursue regime change in Russia.
The Lieutenant General’s conclusion: Russia must launch a special operation to damage the US so that it can no longer pose a nuclear threat. Russia must use its “nuclear potential” to weaken the West and especially the United States.
To this end, Russia is now developing a new military strategy to arm itself against the US in an emergency. Many propagandists support this story. “The continued arms shipments from the West to Kiev risk global catastrophe and renew the threat of nuclear war in Ukraine,” former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, 57, warned on Telegram last week.
Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) had previously announced that he would suspend the “New Start” nuclear disarmament treaty. That put the West on edge. As a result, international control over Russia’s nuclear arsenal is dwindling.
“It is possible that Russia will use nuclear weapons to make up for the shortfalls of its army,” said Alexander Bollfrass, 38, military and nuclear weapons expert at ETH, in an interview with Blick. Despite Putin’s repeated refusal to use nuclear weapons, calls for nuclear weapons from other officers are getting louder, the article shows.
