Demented Austrian leaves craftsmen 3 million

Unusual Thank You: For three years, a plumber in Austria had been repeatedly doing renovation work in an elderly woman’s home – for which he now receives more than just the hourly wage. The woman gave him her entire fortune and also made him the sole heir in her will, writes the “Kronen Zeitung”.

In 2018, the lady lost her husband after 50 years together. The couple had no children. After that, the elderly woman’s mental condition deteriorated and she began to treat her family more and more badly. Her cousin told the newspaper that she had become increasingly ungrateful and refused help. Subsequently, senile dementia was diagnosed.

Her family is shocked. “I never thought a gift would be so easy when you’re not part of the family,” continues the woman’s nephew. “We are stunned.” After the diagnosis, the relationship with his aunt became difficult. She lived in her own world and distanced herself from the family. The material aspect of the donation is not the only thing that hurts the family. Personal memories of the woman now also belong to the installer. So the woman’s husband had a huge art collection.

Family photos also belong exclusively to the professional

The lady seems to have had a very good relationship with her craftsman. She not only inherited her entire fortune of more than three million euros, but also all her properties with a total area of 3000 square meters. And with it all family photos and other mementos that are in their belongings. The heir was also designated in the deed of gift as her only representative, which means that the young man has full control over all her affairs. According to legal classifications, all these practices are legal. For the craftsman, the best of all possible cases happened: as the sole heir in the will, you are doubly protected in Austria.

The relatives tried to reverse the donation. But that turns out to be difficult. Such a case can only be challenged in civil proceedings. The family would have to bear all costs for the procedure themselves and then it is not yet clear whether the gift or will will be declared null and void at all. “The procedure would cost some 10,000 francs,” said the cousin.
