So Lavrov slanders Putin

According to a report in the Financial Times, Sergey Lavrov (72) learned of Vladimir Putin’s (70) war order on the day of the invasion of Ukraine. On that day, Lavrov spoke surprising words about Putin.

The Russian foreign minister appears to have slandered his boss. This is according to the report of the American newspaper. Lavrov is said to have received a “disturbing phone call” a few hours before the invasion and learned of the imminent attack on Ukraine.

Putin has three close confidants

On February 24, 2022, there would have been a meeting between Putin’s senior oligarchs. One of them is said to have asked Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov about Putin’s plans. The oligarch also asked how Putin could keep his plans a secret from the Russian leadership for so long.

Lavrov then said, according to the Financial Times: “Putin has three close confidants: Ivan the Terrible. Peter the Great. And Catherine the Great.” What initially sounds like a pointless answer is a sharp attack on Putin.

Putin’s shield

Apparently, Lavrov is alluding to the fact that Putin’s confidants come from history books. Instead of being advised, Putin is isolating himself. This is also evident from the other report of the Financial Times.

They spoke with six former Russian officials. All have worked closely with Putin. They also speak of isolation. “The difference between Putin and Stalin is: Stalin always learned the truth and was able to solve problems.
